Bangerz 'n Mash - March 21, 2006
Round 3 of mixes continues on with my selection of choice cuts that are so hot they cook.
1) Plantlife/Nina Sky: "Love 4 the World/Turnin' Me On" (Fabriclive 24: Diplo)
The handclap/"Hey!" background makes this song a burner to start off with. Do I love Diplo cause he's a dope selector or cause he loves Ludacris as much as I do?
2) Kaoma: "Lambada"
The Forbidden Dance. I've been promising it on my first few mixes, but never delivered. Finally makes the cut by popular demand.
3) Michael Jackson: "Baby Be Mine" (Thriller)
If the Lambada didn't get you in the mood, then this'll make you want to sidle up to the first warm body you see.
4) Gnarls Barkley: "Crazy" (Gnarls Barkley)
Cee-Lo + Danger Mouse = Crazy Delicious!
5) Chris Isaak: "Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing" (Forever Blue)
My new secret weapon karaoke song. Killed it.
6) Lupe Fiasco: "Mean & Vicious" (Fahrenheit 1/15 Part II: Revenge of the Nerds)
Chi-town's new hero. Name droppin' Catch Me If You Can? Best believe: "Abagnale Jr./Check me!"
7) Mouse on Mars: "Wipe That Sound" (Radical Connector)
Last minute add to the list, something about this song keeps you on the edge of your seat, maybe the jittery beats or the fact that they seem to snip a bit off the end of each beat and vocal.
8) Lee Hazlewood & Nancy Sinatra: "White Mice" (How to Kill the DJ 2)
I bet Frank liked her for her sass.
9) Lulu: "I'll Come Running" (One Kiss Can Lead To Another)
The grit in this skirt's voice gets me all bothered in all the right ways.
10) MAE: "Artefact" (So Yound But So Cold)
We've basically mined this comp for tracks in past mixes, but this one has gone criminally overlooked.
11) Arctic Monkeys: "Dancing Shoes" (Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not)
Newest British flash-in-the-pan, thanks to Myspace have become the highest selling debut of all time. This driving beat might actually prove they can back it all up
12) T.I.: "What You Know (DJ Michael Watts Remix)" (Posted Up at the All Star)
Seems like Mixtape material to me, but I'm not quite sure where its from. Dirty South! "Chirp Chirp"
13) Kenna: "Freetime" (New Sacred Cow)
One of the best tracks to walk the streets to.
14) Sinead O'Connor: "Marcus Garvey (Phillip J. Fullwood/Winston Rodney)" (Throw Down Your Arms)
Sinead takes a break from her pope-bashing ways and instead melts her voice over some old-timey dub tracks. Irish voice + Jamaican beats = surprisingly workable.
15) Morphine: "Cure For Pain" (Cure For Pain)
Dedicated the the old sax dude who lives in the tunnel between the 175th street sub station and the George Washington Bridge Bus Terminal. I walk by him everyday and his sax always makes me want to listen to Morphine... and wish my last name was Sandman. Modern day masterpiece? Might just be.
16) Q Lazzarus: "Goodbye Horses" (Zwischenfall)
Song from Silence of the Lambs when Buffalo Bill is dancing around in his lair. "Would you fuck me? I would fuck me. I would fuck me hard."
Makes me wanna put my ladysuit on and dance.
