The Week In: Box Office Speculation - How Many Horror Films Must a Man Sit Through...
Very little competition in the wide release circuit this weekend. Catch a Fire, a thoughtful and classily-directed film from the underrated genre director Phillip Noyce, will be torn to shreds by the thoughtless and decidedly un-classy Saw III. Prestige, Departed, and Flags should hold pretty strong, even as platforms like Running with Scissors and Babel cut into their biz.
Predix:
1. Saw III - $29mil
2. Prestige - $10mil
3. Departed - $9mil
4. Flags - $7.5mil
5. Open Season - $5.5mil
6. Flicka - $4.5mil
7. Marie Antoinette - $4mil
8. Catch a Fire - $3.5mil
9. Running with Scissors - $3.2mil
10. Grudge 2 - $3mil
Nightmare 3D could sneak in that last spot.
Platform Predix:
Babel is going to do monstrously well - say, $300k in 7 theaters.
